VVCC Recommended Gravel Rides
|
Shorter 258 Lollipop Classic shorter loop from Sycamore Canyon Road in Clarkdale, with a lollipop around 258. Sure to be a crowd pleaser, especially if a shorter ride is desired. The first and last 5 miles share the same section of a quiet paved road. |
258 and 525A Double Looper Mirror image of the Shorter 258 Lollipop course (starting in Sycamore Canyon Road in Clarkdale), but this adds a second loop which may have some UHV traffic (525A-525-761B). |
Cherry Hill Climb A little out of the way (towards Camp Verde), but that is a good thing. Beautiful road conditions and great scenery on a quiet road make this a local's favorite. Try it once and you will be hooked. This is an out and back. The Prescott side of the mountain is paved from mile 9.5 all the way to Hwy 169 (mile 15). For a shorter option, turn around at the top just after the Powell Springs Campground (mile 11.5), this reduces the return climb on the paved section. |
Casner Mountain Cruiser North-South loop that hits Casner Mountain and rolls by the Honanki Heritage Site. |
Beaver Creek Road Out and back route crosses over the divide and down to Hwy 260. Varying road quality but generally good and no overly steep sections. |
VVBC Bike Shop Loop Mixed surface ride from the VVBC. The Ranch Loop OHV legs ( 525A and C) may be challenging for some. No water on this route. |
Apache Maid Lookout / Stoneman Loop The ride starts at the end of pavement on Stoneman Lake Road. Good ride for a hot day. There is parking at the ride start. The map says that FR 229 is paved…it is not. Stoneman Lake Rd can be steep and washboardy. |
Fossil Creek Start at Hwy 260 turnoff outside of Camp Verde and go as far as you want. Cinnamon Pass is 10.4 miles with 1500ft e-gain. A very good ride but can be a lot of traffic with people headed to Fossil Creek (warmer months). If you decide to continue on Fossil Creek Road, the Fossil Creek Waterfall parking area is 2.7 miles further and closed Apr-Oct for hiking only. |
Jerome to Perkinsville Out-And-Back Great scenic gravel ride, only 2 miles on pavement, the rest is gravel bike or hardtail MTB friendly. Steady bigger climb back to Jerome from Perkinsville. Traffic is generally light. Bring your camera! |
Jerome to Chino to Perkinsville Loop Big loop, almost all gravel (only 2 miles on pavement) with views to boot. Some shorter chunky sections on 318A may push you into riding a squishy MTB, but everything else is gravel bike or hardtail MTB friendly. Big steady climb back to Jerome from Perkinsville. Traffic is generally light. |
